The Karamitas Family | Summer Magic on the River
There’s something extra special about an Atlanta summer session by the river — especially when it includes four adventurous boys and parents who are completely ready to lean in and have fun.
The Karamitas family met me at a secluded little spot along one of our beautiful Georgia rivers, surrounded by a sea of lush green. It was one of those warm (okay, HOT) summer days where the cool water and shade of the trees felt like absolute perfection. Truly chef’s kiss.
From the start, there was no rigid agenda. The plan? Have fun. Skip rocks. Explore. Splash a little. (Or a lot.)
The boys did what boys do best — walking the riverbank, climbing, playing, getting their feet wet, and eventually deciding that “splash Mum” was the obvious grand finale. And honestly? She took it like the queen she is. Being the only girl in a house full of men might sound daunting when it comes to family photos, but Leslie embraced every second. Her family of boys showed up, had a blast, and made it effortless.
Now… we did encounter one unexpected guest. A water snake. Just one. (Eek.) I may or may not have made a very quick, camera-in-hand exit for a moment — but after the excitement settled, we were right back in the water, laughing about it and creating some of the most memorable images of the entire session. No one harmed. Just a great story to go with beautiful photos.
What made this session feel so seamless wasn’t luck — it was preparation. Leslie and I worked together beforehand to create cohesive, effortless styling that complemented the environment rather than competing with it. Shooting in a space surrounded by deep greenery can be tricky, but the soft, balanced color palette we chose allowed the family to stand out while still letting the landscape add to the magic.
In between all the play, we carved out quiet moments too — gentle guidance, very little posing, and space for Mum and Dad to step away for a romantic pause together. Those images always matter just as much. The legacy of the family starts with them.
By the end of the session, everyone was soaked, laughing, and completely themselves. And that’s the goal every single time. Not stiff smiles. Not perfect posing. Just connection, movement, and moments that actually feel like your family.
Summer river sessions in Georgia truly are something special. And when you combine beautiful light, thoughtful styling, and a family willing to jump all the way in (literally), the result is magic.
